Important: Enhancements from this release will be available on PROD on March 17th, 2023.
Several new feature enhancements are included in the product update released in mid-March 2023. The major enhancements in this release are the following:
-
Simulation patients now display with a SIM label on insurance
-
Attending providers on clinical notes now mandatory for students
Simulation patients now display with the SIM label on insurance
Simulation (sim) patients now display with a SIM label when users are dealing with bulk insurance payments and when creating insurance claims. This is meant to prevent you from accidentally posting real payments received from insurance to sim patient accounts, and to help you train others on insurance by using the dummy account.
Specifically, the label displays in the following areas of Ascend Academic:
-
The Bulk Insurance Payments page, including the New Bulk Insurance Payment and the Edit Bulk Insurance Payment windows (Home > Insurance > Bulk Insurance Payments)

-
The Patient Walkout window (Patient > Financial > Ledger)

-
The Unattached Procedures page (Home > Location > Overview)

-
The Create Claims page (Home > Insurance > Create Claims)

Ability to filter out simulation patients from reports
Users can now exclude simulation (sim) patient data from the Referral Analysis report (Home > Reports > Referral Analysis) and the Statement Submission report (Home > Reports > Statement Submission Report). You can control whether to include or exclude sim patient data by using the (new) Exclude simulation patients check box accordingly.
Referral Analysis Report

Statement Submission Report

If the reports are set to include sim patient data, the sim patients will display on the report with the SIM label.
Notes:
-
The check boxes are selected by default.
-
The reports won't include data from deleted sim patients, regardless of the check box.
Attending providers on clinical notes now mandatory for students
For student providers that don't have the Sign clinical notes user role permission set, it's very important that they assign a faculty provider as an attending provider on their clinical notes. This allows the faculty to become aware of the clinical note and sign it. To make sure students assign an attending provider, the Attending Provider field on clinical notes (Patient > Clinical > Chart) is now mandatory for students and other users that don't have the proper security rights. Students can't save their clinical notes without assigning an attending provider, as the Save button will be disabled until an attending provider is set.
Also, to save time, the Attending Provider field has been updated to only display providers with the Sign clinical notes user role permission set.
An error may occur when adding referrals to a patient's record
Issue: When users attempt to add referral sources to a patient's record, an "Access denied: Contact your administrator" error may occur. The error may also occur for administrators with the proper security rights.
Solution: Fixed so users can add referral sources as expected.
The tooth filter on patient's progress notes may not work for some patients
Issue: When users select a tooth on a patient's chart and then navigate to the patient's progress notes, it displays a blank list.
Solution: Fixed so it displays entries relevant to the selected tooth.
Actions on patient notes aren't being audited in the audit log
Issue: When users create, edit, and delete a patient note, the action isn't audited in the audit log.
Solution: Fixed so it's audited as expected.
