Several new feature enhancements are included in the product update released in early December 2022. The major enhancements in this release include a new evaluation dashboard, new SMS Registration button on the Patient Communications page, and improvements to location hours.
Important: Enhancements from this release will be available on PROD on December 9th, 2022.
New Evaluation Dashboard
There is a new evaluation dashboard, which allows faculty providers and clinical directors to monitor a user group's health by observing data on completed evaluations. This dashboard only displays for faculty providers and administrators. It doesn't display for students. To access the dashboard, select Student Progress under the Academic menu.
The (new) Academic Progress page displays.

Note: For faculty, the original Progress Summary for Students page displays as a Student Performance tab on the evaluation dashboard. For students, the original Progress Summary for Students page still displays.
The new page comes with 3 tabs, which displays the following:
-
Competency Progress tab - Displays the students' progress on their completed evaluations, both competency and sessional evaluations.
To view data on the Competency Progress tab, you need to select a user group from the Group Name drop-down list, which is located on the left side of the page. Once selected, the Competency Progress report displays data.

The report displays data on the selected user group's students based on the progress summary categories setup (Settings > Academic > Progress Summary).
The report displays the following:
-
- Displays when a student passed an evaluation for a specific evaluation form. The icon displays as long as the student passed at least one evaluation, even if they also failed multiple evaluations for the same form. -
- Displays when a student completed and passed all of the evaluations for a specific evaluation form. -
- Displays when a student failed their evaluation for a specific form, and hasn't passed an evaluation for that evaluation form yet.
You can find out how many times a student passed/failed their evaluation(s) for that evaluation form by clickingtapping the icon to generate a tooltip.

The tooltip doesn't display for the solid block of color green, as the icon only displays when a student passed all of their evaluations for that form.
-
-
Procedure Counts tab - Displays the students' total number of completed procedures on specific categories.
To view data on the Procedure Counts tab, you also need to select a specific user group from the Group Name drop-down list. Once select, the Procedure Counts table displays how many times a student completed the required procedure(s) for a specific progress summary category.
Example: If a student completed a required procedure twice, the table displays a 2. If a student completed 2 required procedures once, the table also displays a 2.
The table doesn't count incomplete procedures.

If a student completed the required number of the procedure(s) required for the category, a
icon displays.Example: A category requires you to complete the required procedures 3 times, and the category has 4 required procedures. If a student completes a single required procedure 3 times, the
icon displays. The icon also displays if a student completed 3 of the required procedures once.Note: The icon doesn't display for categories that doesn't require students to complete a specific number of procedures. For these categories, the table only displays the number of times a student completed the categories' required procedure(s).
For information on how many times a student completed which required procedure(s), clicktap the number/icon to generate a tooltip.

New SMS Registration button on the Patient Communications page
As a dental organization, US considers all text messages, including automated reminders and electronic statements, as business texts, which must be sent through A2P 10DLC. Due to updated industry standards in US, users need to verify that their dental organization is a business; otherwise, the messages will be subjected to heavier filtering by mobile carriers. These messages may not get delivered, and if it does, it'll be marked as "spam likely" in the recipient's message inbox.
To verify your dental organization is a business, you need to complete a Trust Center business profile by using the (new) SMS Registration button on the Patient Communication page (Settings > Patient Care > Patient Communications).

To start, clicktap the button to open the SMS Registration form.

Complete the form by using your dental organization's legal business registration information. You can find them in your company's W2 form or any local/federal tax filings that may be online. You can also contact your organization's accountant or financial office for the information.
When complete, clicktap Save. Once saved properly, a notification will display on the form that your registration status is In Progress, and that it may take several days to complete the verification process conducted by your messaging provider.
Important:
-
The A2P 10DLC registration is currently incomplete, and the button is basically a place holder until the function's complete. If you complete your location's Trust Center business profile and save, Ascend Academic will only save the entered information in the system. The system won't send the information to the messaging provider. Once the function is complete, the system will send any complete Trust Center business profiles to messaging providers automatically.
-
As this is an American system, it won't apply to Canadian dental organizations. However, the button will display. It'll be removed in a later release.
Improvements to location hours
Several changes have been made to the location hours function:
-
The previous version of the Location Hours page (Settings > Location > Location Hours) came with the options to display the Calendar (Schedule > Calendar) in specific increments and to set the default appointment length. We've re-added them to the current version. You can find them at the bottom of the page.

-
When users are viewing or working on a user's working hours (Settings > Location > User Account), hours the user's location is closed are greyed out.
Technical issues when viewing personal information on patients that have a full name longer than 20 characters
Issue: When users update a patient's preferred name to a longer name that's longer than 20 characters, and the patient has another patient as their primary contact, the patient information ribbon widens to make room for the new name. This forced the copyright to overlap with the Save button, making the Save button unclickableuntappable. When users that have access to multiple locations attempt to use the Save button on the Patient Information page, the button doesn't work if the patient's full name, including their preferred name, is longer than 20 characters in total.
Solution: Fixed so the Save button works as expected.
