You can configure imaging filters individually for any number of supported imaging devices.
Example: You can have different filter settings for the Gendex sensors and the ScanX scanner.
You can also test these filters to see how the new filter settings will affect images that you acquire without having to expose yourself or someone else to X-rays repeatedly.
To configure and test imaging filters
How to get there

From the Patient menu, under Clinical, select Imaging.
The patient record displays with the Imaging tab selected.
Tip: You can also access imaging from other clinical areas such as Chart, Progress Notes, Quick Exam, Perio, or Tx Planner.
Note: If the correct patient is not already selected, use the Patient Search field to access the patient's record.

On the patient's record > Imaging tab, clicktap the Imaging tab menu and select Show Image History.
The patient's image history displays with the Images tab selected.

Export a raw image.
You need to export an image without any enhancements to compare and contrast it with another image that has the necessary filter settings.
Note: As Ascend Academic Imaging stores raw images, you can export images that had enhancements when it was captured by a given device.

Select an image listed under the Images tab and clicktap Share.
The Image(s) to be shared window displays.

Clear the Include image enhancements check box to not apply enhancements to the exported image.

Clear the Include annotations and measurements check box to not apply annotations and measurements to the exported image.

Select Export as JPEG (Otherwise PNG) check box to export the images as a .jpg file.

ClickTap Export.
The raw image is downloaded to the default Downloads folder of your Web browser.

Adjust the import filters.
To test the filter settings, you need to adjust the filters for the Import From File device. The adjustments to these filters do not apply to your device.

Right-clickTap and hold the Acquisition Agent icon in the notification area of the Windows task bar, and then clicktapPreferences.
The Preferences window displays.

ClickTap the Filters tab.

Select Import From File from the Device drop-down list.

Set the following filters as necessary:

Apply Gamma Correction - Select the check box and then enter the amount of the Gamma correction. The gamma correction value defines the relationship between a pizel's numerical value and its actual luminance/ Use it to redistribute the tonal levels of a raw image to be closer to how a human eye perceives them on a standard monitor.

Apply Per Smoothing - Select the check box and then enter the Strength of the smoothing effect.

Apply Sharpening - Select the check box and then enter the Effect and the Strength of the sharpening effect.

Apply Post Smoothing - Select the check box and then enter the Strength of the soothing effect after applying the sharpening filter. This check box is only available if the Apply Sharpening check box is selected.

ClickTap Done.

Import the image with the enhancements.
To see how your adjustments may affect images, you need to import an image with the enhancements.

On a patient's clinical record, from the Imaging tab's menu, clicktap Acquire Images.
The options for acquiring images become available.

(Optional) Select the Favorites, Standard, or Custom tab to display a list of favorite, default, or customized imaging procedures.

Select an imaging procedure listed below Imaging Procedures.

Set the acquisition options.

Under the Task to Perform > Acquire Images tab, confirm the device for this imaging exam is set to Import From File. If not, clicktap the set method and select Import From File from the Available Devices tooltip.

ClickTap Proceed with Acquisition.
The Import File window displays.

Select the raw image file and clicktap Open.
The selected image displays.

Select Entire Image from the Apply Enhancement drop-down list.

ClickTap Finish Acquisition.
If satisfied with the result, skip to Step 7. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

Export the enhanced image.
To confirm the import filters have been adjusted as necessary, you need to export the enhanced image to compare it to the raw image.

Display the imported image in Ascend Academic and clicktap Share.
The Image(s) to be shared window displays.

Select the Include image enhancements check box to apply your custom enhancements to the image being exported.

Clear the Include annotations and measurements check box to export the image without annotations and measurements.

Select the Export as JPEG (Otherwise PNG) check box to export the images as .jpg file.

ClickTap Export.
The enhanced image is downloaded to the default Downloads folder for your Web browser.

Compare the images.
To confirm the new imaging filters are satisfactory, you need to compare the enhanced image to the raw image.

Locate and open the raw image and the enhanced image to compare then side by side.

Apply the new filter settings to the physical device.
Apply the new filter settings for the Import From File to the physical device.

Right-clickTap and hold the
icon, which is located in the notification area of the Windows task bar, and then clicktap Preferences. The Preferences window displays.

ClickTap the Filters tab.

Select the device from the Device drop-down list.

Set the device's filters based on the Import From File device's filter settings.

ClickTap Done.

Confirm the filter settings are set as necessary.
To confirm the filter settings are set as necessary, acquire a new image by using the imaging device that has the applied enhancements.

On a patient's clinical record, from the Imaging tab's menu, select Acquire Images.
The options for acquiring images become available.

Select a imaging procedure.

Under the Task to Perform > Acquire Images tab, confirm the acquisition method for this imaging exam is set to the device. If not, clicktap the set method and select it from the Available Devices tooltip.

ClickTap Proceed with Acquisition.

Acquire the image.
The acquired image displays.

Select Entire Image from the Apply Enhancement drop-down list.

ClickTap Finish Acquisition.
The acquisition is complete and the image preview displays.
