Each provider that will use eRx must be set up to prescribe medications.
Note: Provider and clinician are interchangeable terms.
There are three types of eRx providers:
-
Proxy providers (students): These are created in Ascend Academic and do not require additional setup.
-
Providers that can prescribe non-controlled medications: These are created in the system and do not require additional setup.
-
Providers that can prescribe non-controlled and controlled medications: These are created in the system, but the provider must also successfully complete the Identity Proofing and TFA authentication processes.
Note: The Identity Proofing and TFA authentication portions of provider setup must be completed by the provider once the provider has been given access to eRx, and the Identity Proofing and TFA authentication processes have been initialized.
Notes:
-
You can set up providers according to your security rights and/or your DoseSpot role.
-
Once a provider has been enabled for eRx, they must be confirmed by a DoseSpot system admin. It may take up to 24 hours to complete the request.
To complete provider setup for eRx
-
Open Ascend Academic and enable eRx for the provider.
This sends a request to a DoseSpot system admin to confirm the provider in the DoseSpot Admin Console.
If the provider will prescribe controlled medications, it also sends a request for EPCS.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours to complete the request.
Once confirmed, the provider can prescribe non-controlled medications in eRx.
-
If necessary, you can set the provider to prescribe controlled medications in eRx.
-
Open the DoseSpot Admin Console and initialize the Identity Proofing (IDP) process for the clinician.
-
Once the clinician has successfully completed the Identity Proofing process, open the DoseSpot Admin Console and initialize the EPCS/TFA authentication process for the clinician.
This sends a request to a DoseSpot system admin to begin the EPCS/TFA authentication process.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours to complete the request.
After the DoseSpot system admin has completed the request, the clinician is notified to open eRx and complete the complete the TFA process.
Once the provider has successfully completed the TFA process, they can prescribe controlled medications in eRx.
This sends a request to a DoseSpot system admin to begin the IDP process.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours to complete the request.
After the DoseSpot system admin has completed the request, the clinician is notified to open eRx and complete the IDP process.
