You can send custom text messages to a patient's primary contact to initiate or continue a conversation through Ascend Academic.
Notes:
-
Ascend Academic only communicates with patients' primary contacts and does not store any messages from anyone that is not set as a primary contact.
-
Each location has its own mobile number for text messages, which can be located on the Patient Information page > Preferences tab > Text Messages section >
icon. -
Depending on your security rights, you may have access to all text messages at your location or text messages from only your patients' primary contacts. A patient is considered your patient when they have you set as their primary provider.
-
To send text messages, your user role must have the Manage inbox messages security right, the primary contact must be opted in to receiving text messages from Ascend Academic, and the primary contact must have a valid mobile phone number.
-
To send text messages to a primary contact, the primary contact cannot have an Inactive or Duplicate status, and the primary contact's text message preference must be set to Yes (managed from the patient's Patient Information page > Preferences tab > Text Messages).
-
Text message conversations are linked to phone numbers. If a patient changes their primary contact, any messages before the change remain on the original thread and are associated with the original primary contact, but you must create a new thread with the new primary contact.
