Adding medical alerts

You can set up medical alerts that can be attached to patients' records. Ascend Academic comes with a large set of default medical alerts, but you can add your own custom alerts as necessary.

To add a medical alert

1. On the Medical Alerts Library page, confirm the medical alert does not exist in Ascend Academic by entering it in the Search for medical alert search field. You can search manually by expanding the category that the medical alert is likely under.

2. Complete one of the following

   • To add a medical alert for an allergy, clicktap Create New beside Allergies.

     

   • To add a medical alert for a problem, clicktap Create New beside Problems.

     

   The options for adding the medical alert become available.

   

3. Enter the medical alert's information.

   • Alert name / Condition - Enter a name or description of the medical alert.

   • Category - Select the category that is associated with the medical alert the most. For new allergy medical alert, you do not need to set this field as it's already set to Allergies by default.

   • SNOMED CT code - Enter the SNOMED CT code that you want associated with the medical alert.

   • Show alert - Set the toggle to Yes when you want the medical alert to display whenever users access records of patients that have the medical alert. Set to No if you do not want the alert to display when their records are accessed on the system.

     Note: When set to Yes, it displays with the icon on the page.

     

   • Is permanent - Set the toggle to Yes if you want this medical alert to be permanent by default when added to a patient's record. Set the toggle to No if you do not want it to be permanent by default.

     Note: When set to Yes, the medical alert displays whenever you access the patient's information.

   • Active - Set the toggle to Yes to activate or set it to No to inactivate.

4. ClickTap Save.
