You can use voice commands to chart perio exams and dictate clinical notes in Ascend Academic. This functionality requires the purchase of Ascend Voice licenses and the installation of a browser extension (for Chrome browsers only) powered by Bola AI.
For more detailed information on setting up and working with Ascend Voice (powered by Bola AI), refer to the applicable article below or in the Bola AI documentation.
Prerequisites
Before you can set up or use Ascend Voice, you must have the following:
-
Licenses - Contact your Henry Schein One account executive to inquire about purchasing Ascend Voice licenses. Each license that you purchase for your location is good for up to ten computers.
-
Compatible microphones - Consider the following types of microphones when purchasing a microphone:
-
Lapel - A wireless microphone that clips onto clothing.
-
Stationary - A stationary microphone that plugs into your computer and remains situated on the top of the monitor or another nearby surface. A stationary microphone is hands-free and out of the way.
-
Headset - In extremely noisy environments, a headset may work better than a lapel or stationary microphone for dealing with interference from background noise.
Using a lapel-style microphone is recommended. You may want to purchase the following recommended microphones:
FIFINE K053:
FIFINE K031B:
Maono AU-UL10 / AU-410:
Saramonic SR-ULM10 / SR-ULM10L:

Setup
After your order for Ascend Voice licenses is complete, Henry Schein One will send you a welcome email message. Then, you can configure Ascend Voice.
Usage
After the browser extension is installed and registered, and your microphone is working, Ascend Voice is ready for use in entering perio exams and dictating clinical notes.
