It's common for a dentist to ask the dental assistant or dental hygienist to enter prescription(s) at the end of a dental procedure, and review any post-operative instructions with a patient. This allows the dentist to move on to their next patient. For offices that use electronic prescriptions through Ascend Academic ePrescribe, you can assign a dental assistant or hygienist as a proxy user so they can enter electronic prescriptions for a dentist. Using a proxy to enter a prescription for either a controlled substance or a non-controlled substance allows the dentist to keep working and later review, approve, and then submit the electronic prescription.
Watch this video to learn how to assign a proxy user to enter electronic prescriptions. (Duration: 2:34)
Additional Information
-
DoseSpot must approve the proxy user's account. The approval may take up to 24 hours. Until approved, the user does not have access to electronic prescriptions and will not see that option in the Prescriptions menu.
-
After DoseSpot approves the user's account, the proxy can begin entering prescriptions for controlled and non-controlled substances on behalf of a doctor.
-
When a proxy user enters a prescription on a behalf of doctor, a red asterisk displays next to the Provider's username and the Electronic Prescriptions on the User menu. It acts as an alert that they have pending prescriptions to review, approve, and send.
